Women of Palestine #3

Hanan is a 16 years-old teenager born and raised in the Balata camp. She was a participant in the Game Girl Workshop in Balata, where she made the sound for the games. Her dream is to become a building engineer and get married with a lovely man. Until then she lives with her parents, older brother two younger siblings in a basement apartment in the Balata camp.

Mashael Yasin studied Computer Information Systems at the University of Jerusalem.
She was a participant in the first workshop for university students and worked as a co-teacher during the workshop in the Balata camp in Nablus.

Mashael reached the final in the competition “Making Palestine 2011 for technology ”

Workshop 3 flyver afsted (Danish)

Nablus:
Den tredje og sidste computerspil workshop er skudt i gang i flygtningelejren Balata i Nablus. 21 piger er i fuld gang med at tegne, producere lyde og programmere deres spil. De første dage er altid lidt kaotiske med åbne idé-processer og introduktion til de forskellige programmer.

Pigerne er inddelt i tre grupper og samarbejder om at udvikle spillene. Grafikerne tegner spillets hovedperson, eller helten som det hedder på spilsprog. Når hun er på plads, kan programmørerne gå i gang med deres arbejde, hvor første skridt er at få helten til at bevæge sig.

Samtidig er lyd-designerne i fuld sving med at optage lyde til spillet. Det kan både være baggrundsmusik og lyde, der illustrerer, hvad hovedpersonen foretager sig. Fx skal helten i et af spillene samle frugt i en skov, så her har to piger lige optaget lyden af skridt i en skovbund.

Abeer works in the reception in the local youth center in Anabta, where the second workshop takes place. Shes is 26 years-old and her dream is to become a photographer. She has taken wedding photos for the past 4, 5 years.
